In 1948 he received the Reuben Award, the first of his many awards that came his way. Other strips Chic Young created are 'The Family Foursome' and 'Colonel Potterby and the Duchess', but his most famous is the internationally-known 'Blondie', which he drew from 1930 until his death in 1973. In 1925, he signed the name 'Chic' Young for the first time, in the strip 'Dumb Dora'. He was employed by King Features Syndicate in 1924. The two were married, and Dagwood was promptly disinherited from the family fortune. Originally, Blondie Boopadoop was a flighty flapper and Dagwood Bumstead was the bumbling playboy son of a millionaire industrialist. In 1922 he created 'Beautiful Bab' for Bell Syndicate, another girl comic. Blondie and Dagwood, wife and husband who appeared in Blondie, an American newspaper comic strip created by Chic Young in 1930. His first strip was called 'The Affairs of Jane'. He started his career in 1920, working for the Newspaper Enterprise Association. Encouraged by his painting mother, Murat Young studied art in Chicago, New York and Cleveland. ![]()
